Advantages:

Our apricot shell activated carbon is made from high-quality natural apricot shells, produced through precision processing. It features uniform particle sizing and a well-developed pore structure, delivering strong adsorption capacity and stable performance. The optimized pore structure enables efficient adsorption of gold cyanide complexes, making it ideal for heap leach gold extraction, tailings recovery, and organic solvent recovery. Its balanced mesopore/micropore ratio ensures rapid gold loading kinetics, even in challenging working conditions. As a naturally sourced, cost-effective solution with stable pricing, it offers reliable and consistent performance for your mining and recovery operations.

Application:

High-throughput heap leach gold operations rely on our apricot shell activated carbon to process low-grade ores economically, delivering consistent performance across large-scale leach pad circuits. Refractory ore heap leach processors use it to maximize gold recovery from complex mineralogy containing preg-robbing components. Small to medium mining cooperatives depend on our carbon for achieving reliable, professional-grade recoveries in simplified heap leach setups. Tailings reprocessing operations utilize it to recover previously unrecovered gold values from leachate streams. Even for heap leach projects with variable ore characteristics, our carbon efficiently captures gold-cyanide complexes, even in the presence of competing ions, ensuring exceptional performance in applications where metallurgical efficiency directly impacts profitability. Its stable adsorption kinetics and consistent performance under varying heap leach conditions—including fluctuating pulp densities, pH levels, and competing ion concentrations—make it the preferred choice for operations seeking to maximize recovery while optimizing operational costs.

Heap Leaching Process: Gold Recovery via Continuous Cyanide Leaching and Carbon Adsorption

The heap leaching process is a widely adopted, cost-effective method for gold recovery, particularly suited to low-grade ores where conventional CIP/CIL circuits are not economically viable. The process begins with ore preparation, where mined ore is crushed and, in some cases, agglomerated to improve permeability. The prepared ore is then stacked into large, engineered leach pads lined with impermeable materials to contain the leach solution.
A dilute cyanide solution (leachate) is continuously sprayed or dripped over the ore heap. As the solution percolates downward through the ore bed, it dissolves the gold, forming a gold-cyanide complex. The pregnant leach solution (PLS)—containing dissolved gold—is collected at the base of the heap and piped to a dedicated adsorption circuit, where granular activated carbon is used to capture the gold.
In this circuit, the PLS flows through a series of adsorption columns or tanks containing activated carbon. The carbon adsorbs the gold-cyanide complexes, effectively removing the precious metal from the solution. The now barren leach solution is treated and recirculated back to the heap for reuse, minimizing cyanide consumption and environmental impact.
Once the carbon reaches its gold-loading capacity, it is removed from the circuit and sent for elution (stripping), where the gold is desorbed from the carbon using a high-temperature, high-pressure caustic cyanide solution. The stripped carbon is then regenerated (reactivated) in a kiln to restore its adsorption capacity, making it ready for reuse in the adsorption circuit. The concentrated gold solution from elution proceeds to electrowinning, where metallic gold is deposited onto cathodes for further refining.
This efficient, low-cost system achieves high gold recovery rates by leveraging the continuous percolation of leachate and the selective adsorption properties of activated carbon, making it ideal for large-scale, low-grade mining operations.
